FFR Progress, 1/2 roller

Memorial weekend and this weekend I've had the luxury of being able to stay home, fix the house, and work on the car.  For those interested, I've got the front suspension, brakes, wheels, and steering on finally - and the front end DOWN ON THE GROUND!  I'm waiting on my poly IRS knuckle/differential bushings to come in and am slowly but surely removing, cleaning, and painting parts from the beast to install when they arrive.  FWIW, the 'beast' is a 98 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC that I bought for the engine (aluminum 4.6L 32V DOHC), IRS (independent rear suspension) components, and a bunch of odds and ends that it shares with the Mustang GT/Cobra.

The plan is to hit up my buddy 'brain' over at the Ford salvage yard for some more 96-04 GT parts.  He's the guy who made me a straight deal on the fuel tank, steering rack, and front spindles (complete with brakes).  This time, I'm shopping for a TR-3650 5sp tranny, 6-bolt flywheel, clutch & plate, clutch cable, and pedal rack.  I get the feeling this might be an expensive trip ;).  Pictures...

SASCA 5/18/2008 Videos Posted!

Title says it all - I uploaded the first round of test videos from the 720p camera at my autocross video page for everyone's enjoyment.  Overall, the camera did really well for a $139 camera.  While processing the videos for DVD and the web, I found that the sound quality (wind noise) was pretty terrible so I checked Aiptek's site and some forums and found that I needed a firmware upgrade right out of the box.  My new camera was at v1.6 or something, so I successfully flashed it up to v2+ which should resolve the mic clipping and reportedly fixes a zoom issue.

Last weekend was STBR's May autocross.  Once again, I had the pleasure of driving dad's car - this time on the blue course with and without slicks, mostly dry, with a little rain to keep things interesting.  Anyway, I'm digressing...the point here is that a couple folks at STBR had noticed the camera and asked if we posted our 'training' vids anywhere.  Converting from tape to PC, cutting, and making web-able videos had been on Dad and I's to-do lists, so, I grabbed a copy of last weekend's footage and am posting it HERE for all to enjoy.

While we're on topic, I've been shopping for a low-cost in-car HD camcorder.  I saw some autocross footage shot with an Aiptek A-HD (720p camcorder w/5-8MP still) and decided that it was worth trying one out.  So far so good with some high-res still and uninteresting "test" video around the house.  Since we also run the SASCA events and have a back-log of tapes to transfer/clip/convert, I will come up with some slick variation of the photo gallery that I've already got in the works.  Check back for new content often, and keep an eye out for HD stuff (well 720p anyhow) - it should make fore even better videos.

For those that don't know (while I await the NASCAR recruiter's $1M call) I am a degreed, professional web developer (ASP.Net/VB/C#/SQL), and am available for hire.  If you like what you see here, contact or refer me for your next web or ecommerce project.

Post-weekend Update

I had a relatively productive weekend in spite of Time Warner Cable's outage here on Friday.  Kelly made the drive to Big D to visit - it was good to have help and 'supervision' with some of the house projects.  The laundry room tiles are down and (after a quick trip to Lowe's this morning) I should be done with the kitchen door, laundry room and bi-fold doors that match the rest of the kitchen.  We also put up some huge shelves in the garage rearranged things so I can actually find my tools and work on the workbench!

Me, sharing...

Okay -- I've been promising to share photos with too many people for too long, so here are some.  I plan to organize these a little more and add captions when I create a nice xml-based photo gallery control (hopefully, very soon).
